39/365:empty chairs and empty tables

Saturday October 9th

empty chairs and empty tables

There’s a grief that can’t be spoken.
There’s a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables
… Where my friends will meet no more.

(Les Miserables)

Something sad and despondent overwhelmed me as I saw empty chairs at empty tables in and around the city today. The warm weather is over (snow is forcast for next week!)- and the long nights/short days are becoming more and more of a reality in our lives.

To be honest I’m not sure what I could see of the Kingdom of God in this –  other than a reminder that God is with us always, even in the darkest of times. I need to hold onto that!
