213/365: gravestones

Thursday April 28th

I don’t think I’ve ever looked round the graveyard at St Mary’s Church (Maarian kirkko) here in Turku. It’s very interesting. Quite of a lot of highly patriotic memorial stones, and an interesting sculpture on what is – I think -the tomb of Väinö Aaltonen (Finnish sculptor).

But it was this which caught my eye and my imagination

I love the way that there’s shadow behind the cross. And the movement of the Spirit – as a flame-cum-cloud is fabulous too. It looks almost like arabic script (to my eyes).
