286: bonfire night

It’s still the tradition to have bonfires and fireworks on November 5th here in the UK.

The bonfire party I attended was a community outreach organised by the churches in Stavely (just outside Chesterfield). The fireworks were spectacular. Because of health and safety regulations the fire was too far away to warm us up and no sparklers were allowed (insurance restrictions).

I wonder what the ‘this close no closer’ mentality says about the state of our churches and our spiritual lives?
