Another Day’s Walking

It’s amazing how much you walk in a city! I noticed that on the Camino too of course, but also here in Amsterdam.

It’s been a really good way to end my ‘sabbatical’ and absolutely wonderful that my daughter was able to join me here … we’ve had so much fun, but I am now -finally – ready to return home!

There’s still a lot to process -at many levels – and a whole selection of photos to work through so I can save only the best. I kept a (handwritten) journal throughout the Camino and will get some pictures printed … who knows I might have grandchildren, or great grandchildren one day who’ll find the Compostela and want to read about the intrepid traveller who was their ancestor way back in 2018.

2018 has been a fantastic year for me.

I don’t particularly like the term bucket list, but this year has been a year of achievements! I have done some things that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time! Visiting Shetland and Orkney was one (May /June this year) and the Camino was another ‘biggie’! Wow! And I ended up (unexpectedly) with a dog to call my own as well!

I’ve also wanted to see the fabulous Katie Melua in concert for a long time, and I did, and it was great. It meant I got to spend three days in this marvellous busy city as well … saw the Anne Frank Secret Annex (which made me weep), took a boat tour around the amazing canal system admiring the wonderful crooked houses and learned a lot about them (including why they were narrow and how they got furniture in and out) and explored loads on foot … but now I’m ready to go home!
